Greater Washington Urban League Celebrates “70” Years Of Service With Kick-Off Community Festival

Greater Washington Urban League

The Greater Washington Urban League is hosting a community festival on Saturday, August 23, 2008 from 1pm-5pm at the GWUL Headquarters located on the corner of 14th & Harvard Street, NW. This event is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

The festival will consist of much fanfare. Highlights include live musical entertainment by Smooth Jazz artist Marcus Johnson, artists, crafts, food, and prize giveaways. It is a family event, so please bring the children. There will be stilt walkers, dancers, face painters, and much more.

The Greater Washington Urban League has held a constant presence in the D.C community while providing positive life changing services since 1938. Hundreds of thousands of residents in the Washington metropolitan area have benefited from League services in the areas of education, housing, job training, aging and health services, and many other forms of social service.

Come help us celebrate! There will be exhibits, vendors, health and education information, voter registration applications, and much more. Chartered Health will provide health screenings; YMCA Traveling Playground and Fitness will conduct child fitness assessments; The D.C. Board of Elections will provide voter registration information, and WPGC Radio will broadcast live during the event.

For more information, contact Ms. Claudette Perry at 202-265-8200, Ext. 290, or visit the GWUL Website at www.gwul.org.

The Greater Washington Urban League, one of more than 100 affiliates of the National Urban League and member of the United Way of the National Capital Area , is a major nonprofit social service agency and civil rights organization with programs in education, employment and training; aging and health services; and housing and community development.
