I'm moving to Col. Hts in April and would like to find a gym nearby. Any ideas?

My wife belongs to Results at 16th and U. There used to be a gym, Muscle Beach, near 18th and Florida, but I'm not sure if that's still there or not...

I go to City Fitness on Connecticut Ave...it's right across the park on Porter Ave. It's friendly, an independently owned gym with funky architecture, an outdoor deck, and just a comfortable space that's not too, err, testosterone crazed. (which is not to say that it's not serious about fitness--it is--just not that over-the-top competitive vibe that happens elsewhere. Don't make me name names).

When I was searching, I visited the YMCA, the YWCA (on the Greenline metro on 9th St), Results, Tenley town gym (the one in the big cinema complex), and DC's primo gym, LA Sports club. The Y's, Tenley, and LA Sports have pools...which is nice, but they were also more expensive and had parking or transportation issues.

City Fitness won out because it was the least expensive (Results was the next contender for price), had nice choices and things like free yoga rather than pay-extra for more desireable classes, the commute is a straight shot across the park, has validated free parking for an hour and I can pick up some quick groceries at McGruder's to boot. (Love McGruder's)

I hear tale there's a Washington fitness club coming in next year...I'm sure I'll compare that plan too. But I'm pretty darn happy with City Fitness.
