So Graham is trying to change the DC law to name the Girard Park after President Obama.

Good idea?

I vote yes...

My main thought is that in the long run we might regret not giving him a better park.

1) Doesn't matter. Violates DC code.

2) No. I think we all have a better imagination than that. I'd rather the park be named something that is distinctly Columbia Heights, rather than something we share with everyone.

Let's call it, "Wanna share a Metro stop now, Mount Pleasant? IT'S TOO LATE! Park".

Word. After all, Reagan got a whole airport and a city block's worth of public building downtown. Even if he accomplishes nothing during his presidency, as the first black president Obama deserves something with more city-wide exposure.

And there's no need to go changing laws willy-nilly. Just get creative, Jim.

Not to mention, in addition to the airport and huge building, Reagan got an aircraft carrier named after him!

My thought: name the park after MICHELLE Obama, accomplished in her own right and working towards helping children, etc.

Before I get jumped on, I am an Obama supporter, and I did vote for him.

However, I think we wait until he establishes a legacy in office. Reagan didnt get any of that stuff named after him until he left office. Not 9 months after he was voted into office. What if Obama turns out to be a bad president after all is said and done?

I agree with Alaaro. Jury is still out on how good a President Obama is or will be. Also, the park is kinda weak to be named after a President. Name it after Graham, it was his doing, he should be saddled with its legacy.

Nation- (if not world-) changing president......vs. random park with a few benches, a "multi-purpose" court not large enough to be called a "basketball court," and and curiously appointed fence adorned with a repetitive line of victorian & federal style building facades. The intentions are admirable...but the execution falls a little flat.

....but at least he trotted for a bit on a local WSC treadmill....so there is that.

I think we should name the park for former mayor Anthony Williams who is responsible for starting the turn around of the City.

I can't say that I agree with Obama's attempt to turn the US into venezuela but I say it's a great idea to the name the park after him.

That way we can all know whose policies contributed to the killings and drug dealing once that starts up again. But hey, at least the people who get shot will have access to health care!

How about naming the park that's near the Tivoli & Pollo Compero & The Heights?

"Obama's attempt to turn the US into venezuela"

I'm no Obama fan, but this statement is simply ridiculously wrong. I understand it's hyberbole, but come on.

Sorry, took the bait.

How about, "Screw You, Pedestrians Park"? The lights at that intersection are so strangely timed for pedestrians, it's a wonder we don't have more accidents.
