Curious to hear folks' thoughts on this. I've heard only good things about Delgado, and unless there is more to this story than on this surface, this sounds like a real loss for our community. I guess this is what happens when someone tries to think outside the box ...

More on the story, and it gets worse.

http://dcist.com/2009/06/turnover_demotions_in_3rd_district.php

So basically we now get someone who was demoted to replace him? WTF?

Unless I hear a convincing explanation, soon, I am going to complain to whomever will listen in city gov't, and I encourage others to do the same. As far as I could tell, Delgado was responsive, communicative, and innovative, including putting (for awhile) a dedicated beat officer on 11th Street, starting operation live link, and coming to community meetings and being very active on listservers. And he was of course completely right to try to shame the city into doing something about its utter joke of a juvenile "justice" system which basically equate to, if you are a juvenile, you can rob or kill whomever you choose without any repercussions.

I agree. Very much a loss for the community. He presented at an NCHCA meeting a while back and I was very impressed by his dedication and passion to keep the community safe. Especially his focus on the 11th and Monroe park.

Maybe there's more to the story, I don't know, but if he was pulled simply for that email, then the city should be ashamed. Because he's absolutely correct about the system and how it deals with juveniles.
