I think it's pretty clear that your longing for order false cries about "off-topic posts" is really an effort to seek comfort in group think. There is really little to fear from different perspectives.
As far as DCUSA goes, several small businesses need support with buildout costs, similar to Ellwood Thompson. However, the CM Member and the Mayor has shown in unwillingness to help as they have with developers such as Donatelli Development and Level 2. This although there is about $1M in Columbia Heights Small Business Assistance Funds unaccounted for.
There are a couple of other businesses who want to come into DCUSA, but they want to come in with Ellwood.
The Mayor and CM still support misusing $2.1M in Neighborhood Investment Funds which can be used for small business support and other community needs to cover for their poor management of the parking garage.

Bronat likely views this as a positive, since most of the members here disagree with his viewpoint, By fomenting chaoes and off-topic flame wars, he intends to wreck this neighborhood resource. To save it, this forum needs to be handed over to someone who would update the main page, and moderate the discussions here more proactively. The best forums I've ever participated in are way more organized and run more efficienty: the Cleveland Park listserv for one, the huge (50,000 members) Canon DSLR group on Flickr, etc. In the Canon group, if anyone opens a new thread on an old topic, say the merits of a particular lens, the moderators will merge it into the original thread on that lens, providing continuity and making it easier to find information. Also, no personal attacks or major tangents are permitted. Bronat unfortunately hangs out on the two "wild west" completely unregulated electronic resources in Columbia Heights, the Yahoo listserv, and now this one, originally formed in response to the anarchy of the Yahoo one. Even more unfortunately, the creator of this forum had a child or something and lost all interest in it, maybe even moved out of the neighborhood. |

Bronat, you should see the disagreements on the Canon DSLR group on Flickr. Photographers are very passionate about their equipment and techniques. The difference is that the threads are kept ON TOPIC, and trolls are swiftly banished (Nikon users, ha ha). Organization and effective moderation is not the same thing as censorship or "group think." Sometimes, order and civility are just that. How many DCUSA threads do we need? One, from day one, would have been sufficient.
Re: DCUSA, what small businesses need help with their buildout? Please be specific - I think we will all be interested in hearing about it. |
