Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

DC USA

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area.  Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market!  More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights.  Read more in the Retail News section.

Yes! Organic MarketWe were forwarded a message from Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham announcing that Yes! Organic Market we be coming to the Union Row condominium/retail project in the U Street Corridor (14th and V Streets NW).  Thanks Suzanne.  Councilmember Graham stated the following:

I am pleased to announce that Yes! Organic grocery will occupy one of the six retail spaces on the first floor of the Union Row building, located at 14th and V St, NW.  

The Union Row project is part of the overall rejuvenation of the U Street Corridor.  Yes! Organic will offer residents natural foods as part of a unique shopping experience.   Please visit my website for more information.

The 5,000 square foot Yes! Organic grocery is scheduled to open in the spring of 2008.  This will be the fifth location for the DC-based grocer.   More retailers will be announced soon, including a restaurant, a dry cleaner, and a large national chain store.

i'm still willing to bet that the chain store will be an apple store. i've got no proof of this, just a hunch...

when looking into a unit there, I had heard chatter that the chain would be a CVS/Rite Aid

I would think the apple store, if there is going to be one, would be more in a shopping corridor like the DCUSA area. Near other electronic retailers, etc. You MUST have an inside scoop!

I read an article in the post (i think) a while back that there were plans to improve the retail portion of the Reeves Community Center at 14th&U. As part of that, there was discussion of putting Apple in that center. Maybe that's where the poster's hunch is from.
