Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area.  Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market!  More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights.  Read more in the Retail News section.

EatwelldcWe have just been informed by Chris Donatelli that Donatelli Development, Inc. has just signed a lease with Eatwelldc to bring a new restaurant to the Kenyon Square condominium and retail development.  The new restuarant will likely be named "The Heights" and will occupy a 3,100 square feet at the north end of the Kenyon Square building (14th St and Kenyon St NW).  It will also have 1,600 square feet of outdoor dining space.

The Heights will be Eatwelldc's fourth restaurant in Washington, D.C.  It currently operates two restaurants in Logan Circle, Merkado Kitchen and Logan Tavern.  Eatwelldc also runs Grillfish near Dupont Circle.

Columbia Heights -- Eatwelldc Principal, David Winer and Donatelli Development President, Christopher Donatelli and Gragg & Associates announce a lease agreement that will add a new 3,100 square  foot arestaurant with another 1,600 square feet of outdoor cafe style seating to the Kenyon Square condominium in the Columbia Heights neighborhood.

The restaurant is likely to be named "The Heights."   Eatwelldc's newest venture will feature American style, upscale food with eclectic influences and be open for Saturday and Sunday brunches.

Donatelli Development is developing Kenyon Square, a 153-unit condominium above the Columbia Heights metro, featuring approximately 19,000 square feel of ground floor retail and restaurant space.  The restaurant will be located near the northern portion of the building near 14th and Kenyon Street.

"This is a very significant addition to the Columbia Heights neighborhood" said Christopher Donatelli, president of Donatelli Development.  "This signals the type of retail and revitalization which occurred in the Logan Circle and U Street corridor is coming the Columbia Heights," added Donatelli.

Eatwelldc owns and operates three restaurants in the city:  Logan Tavern, Grillfish, and Merkado Kitchen.

In addition to Kenyon Square, Donatelli Development and Gragg & Associates are also bringing Highland Park, a 229-unit condominium at the southwest exit above the Columbia Heights metro.  Previously, Donatelli and Gragg & Associates developed the Ellington apartments on U Street.

Fantastic news. The area needs more places like this to balance out the chains that will overtake the area - Ruby Tuesdays, Quiznos, Pollo Campero, etc.

are there any black restaurants around in the area? have been looking for a good black restaurant that is not ethiopian or african. they seem to have disappeared from the washington arena.
