Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market! Man Fatally Shot Near Petworth Pizzeria

A 42-year old man was fatally shot in the 1300 block of Randolph St NW in Petworth, just north of Columba Heights. An armed robber accosted the victim on Sunday afternoon and demanded the pizza that the victim had just picked up from Washington Pizza, a popular neighborhood carryout. Several people witnessed the incident and came to the aid of the victim. The gunman was chased by the group into an alley where the victim was shot in the head.

"Witnesses told police that they believed the man was in his twenties, black with a light complexion, with braided hair, about 5 foot 11 and clean-shaven. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants."
