Funeral Service For Sgt. BurkeThe viewing and memorial service for Third District Sergeant Gerard W. Burke Jr. was held on Tuesday, March 28 at St. Patrick Catholic Church.  A full honor guard ceremony followed the service.  The funeral procession went through Columbia Heights and consisted of an entourage of white-gloved officers, a motorcade of patrol cars and motorcycles, and a helicopter flyby.  Police officials also paid tribute to Sgt. Burke by playing an audiotape of his last call to the dispatcher through loudspeakers outside the church.

According to a post on the 3D Substation messageboard, the procession followed the following route:

"The procession will leave St. Patrick's Church, located at 619 10th Street, NW, going north on 10th Street, west on G Street, north on 11th Street, east on Lamont Street, north on Sherman Avenue, east on Park Road passing the Third District sub-station at 750 Park Road, NW, and disbanding at Georgia Avenue and Park Road, NW. The body will then be taken to the Reagan National Airport."

You can read more about the Sgt. Burke and his funeral procession in the Washington Post article, Sergeant Leaves Legacy of Valiant Service.
