Columbia Heights has had its share of the wave of violent crimes that have been hitting the District in the past few weeks including the fatal shooting of Tayon Glover in the 1400 block of Girard Street NW on August 23.

Tayon Glover was among three men who were shot in this incident that occurred at about 10pm two Thursdays ago.  Glover did not survive the wounds inflicted to his chest and abdomen.  The other two men have recovered.

Tayon Glover was the brother of Ralph Anwan Glover who was an actor on HBO's The Wire.

For more information on this tragic shooting, please read the Washington Post article:  We're Tired of Seeing the Yellow Tape.

Guardian AngelsThis incident has prompted The Guardian Angels to begin patrolling the streets of Columbia Heights with special attention given to the 14th Street corridor between Fairmont St NW and the Metro station.  A dozen members began patrol duty last Friday.  Please see the NBC4 story, Guardian Angels Plan Neighborhood Patrols.

In related news, DC Police have been keeping a database of nicknames used by criminals for decades.  These nicknames are often tied to certain crime sprees and can used to track perpetrators.  DC Police recently used this nickname database to link a series of murders in Columbia Heights that occurred over the past three years to an ex-convict that was referred to as "Head."  For more on this story, please read the Washington Post article:

Nickname Data Help D.C. Police Pursue Criminals.
