Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

DC USA

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area.  Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market!  More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights.  Read more in the Retail News section.

DC USA Ground BreakingThe official DC USA Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 5th at 11:30AM.  Government officials and community leaders will be in attendance including Mayor Anthony Williams, Council Chair Linda Cropp, and Councilmember Jim Graham.  The lead developers for the DC USA project will also be present.  The community groundbreaking celebration, with food and entertainment, will be held the next day, Saturday, May 6th, 11AM.

Both groundbreaking ceremonies will be held at the DC USA site, Irving St NW between 14th St NW and Hiatt Pl NW.  DC USA is set to open early 2008.

So, is the Whole Foods coming or not? :-) Have not seen anything new on it on this site in ages..

b/c they needed parking, and there's no space in the plans for Whole Foods Parking.

i heard they may still be interested. it seems like there should be a way to work out the parking seeing how they take up the whole backside of the DC-USA site. People should be pressing the new mayor to see that whole foods needs are accomadated. (p.s.i hate the name DC-USA. How about DC Gallarie or Columbia Plaza)
