Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

DC USA

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area.  Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market!  More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights.  Read more in the Retail News section.

DC USAWe have received an update on the retail tenants planned for the DC USA site.  According to Drew Greenwald, President of Grid Properties, Marshalls has signed on.  Caribou Coffee will be signing on in place of DC USA.  Greenwald noted that Starbucks "may open across the street."

There are also quite a few omissions from the retail tenant list that we previously reported.  Petco, Casual Male, Cingular, and Sun Trust are not expected to be tenants.  For the most up to date list of retailers that have signed on or are in negotiations, please visit our DC USA page.

I think I read somewhere the Waffle Shop may come to the DC USA as well. In any case, you may want to adjust your expectations a little. DC USA is a _mall_ (or a shoppin centre) after all. How many malls do you know that are full of artisan shops etc.? At least DC USA has some space with lower rents for "local" businesses.

Barnes and Noble or Borders.

I love all of the chain stores; I say bring'em on! I can't wait to move here from NE, where there is NOTHING but liquor stores and hair braiding salons, oh and the occasional fish fry joint.

Refreshing dose of realism! :) Welcome to CH!

I moved here from Brentwood, and I have to agree that CH is a nicer neighborhood because of the chain retail. At least the chains are in an urban format; unlike the Rhode Island Ave Plaza where Home Depot and Giant sit in a sea of asphalt, disconnected from the metro.
