Giant Food's Consumer Adviser

Giant Food has been slowly losing market share over the years.  Sales at Giant Food have been slipping and customer service has been in decline since it was taken over by the Netherlands based company Royal Ahold in 1998.  One of Giant Food's turnaround strategies is to transform itself into a neighborhood friendly local grocer.  This starts with customer service.  Their secret weapon is Andrea Astrachan, Giant's consumer adviser, and a graduate of Howard University's Law School.  Astrachan recently completed a tour of the Giant in Columbia Heights.  She spoke with everyone from managers to cashiers to get suggestions on how best Giant can serve customers.

For more on this story please go to the Washington Post article, The Face of Giant's Comeback Strategy.

The Giant Food location in Columbia Heights has received some criticism from local residents due to poor customer service.  With a renewed focus on customer service, Giant Food may be more attentive to our comments and suggestions.  You can read Andrea Astrachan's consumer column and contact Giant Food with your own suggestions.
