Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market! More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights. Read more in the Retail News section.

Allegro To Become Rental Apartments

Allegro

We just got word from a number of readers that the Allegro condominium development will become rental apartments. Allegro condo purchasers were recently sent letters from the developer informing them of the news and providing assurance that their deposits will be returned as a result of the conversion to rentals.

The reason cited for converting the condos to apartments was the downturn in the housing market and the credit crunch. Condo purchasers were offered the option to lease their units.

Allegro follows Highland Park as another major condo project in Columbia Heights that is converting to apartments due to slowing sales.

Sweet! As if traffic won't bad enough with the target, now we get the constant moving in and out of apartments at the end of the month!

Allegro is the perfect example of how not to develop an area.

I feel for the people on Newton where the loading dock to the apartments will be going in. :(
