Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights

Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market! Nehemiah Shopping Redevelopment

The Nehemiah Shopping Center located along 14th St NW (between Belmont and Chapin Streets NW) will be redeveloped into condominiums with ground-level retail. Construction is not expected to commence until the middle to end of 2007.

Still no pre-construction activity here. The laundromat appears to be open for business, and the leasing sign is still up. Anyone know what's going on?

The developer apparently paid $12 million for the site... you'd think they'd want to get started.
