Major Retail Coming to Columbia Heights
Columbia Heights is poised to become the shopping destination for the entire Washington, DC area. Hundreds of thousands of square feet of retail space are in the works including DC USA, a 500,000 sq. ft. retail complex that will include major retailers such as Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, and possibly Whole Foods Market! More exciting retailers are planning to open in the newly renovated Tivoli Square and other developments across Columbia Heights. Read more in the Retail News section.
Highland Park converting back to rentals Written by Duexepard on 2007-08-15 00:15:57Originally marketed as Columbia Heights Station, Highland Park was scheduled to be rental apartments. Due to the strong initial interest in Kenyon Square, the name was changed and they became condos. Lately I have heard a lot of whispers that these are being converted back into apartments due to s-l-o-w sales. I understand that an announcement could be made by mid-September. The following snippet from today’s Washington Post article seems to confirm this:
Leigh Robertson, a foreign-service officer, she wanted to buy a condo before moving to Bangladesh for two years. She put down a deposit in November on a one-bedroom at View 14. When that fell through, she put down a deposit at Highland Park in Columbia Heights. Now in Bangladesh, she is still waiting to hear whether the contract will be ratified.
Maybe they will change the name again, but at least the restaurants are still coming!
new haven style pizza Written by
on 2007-09-26 08:15:55Whoever had the idea to search wikipedia for the definition of APIZZA had it exactly right. We are opening a pizza restaurant that will serve genuine New Haven style APIZZA, plus an assortment of pastas, panini, salads and dolce. If everyone would look up APIZZA on wikipedia, or even just google it, we'd have a lot less work to do in describing our pizza to the hungry public. My sister (who is one of three principal partners in the restaurant) and I grew up in New Haven county eating pizza from the famous Sally's, Modern and Pepes, but also the less famous Rossini's and Pop's in Cheshire. Our current favorite, now that our parents moved to the Lighthouse Point neighborhood, is Grande APIZZA in East Haven. We're very excited to be opening. (I'm a CH resident since 1999; not one of the principal owners of the restaurant). Mike Wilkinson 202-545-0880.
Written by GforGood on 2007-09-26 08:42:48OH MY OH MY!! You just made me sooo hungry! Getting good pasta in CH would be a dream come true. Please please please make them always perfectly al dente and not swimming in excessive sauce (like 95% of "Italian" restaurants here seem to do)... :)
