The DC Council today passed a resolution approving $2.7 million in projects for Ward One neighborhoods - including three parks and a major investment in job training. The spending is part of the current fiscal year's budget, and was included at the request of Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward One).

"These dollars will have a major impact on Georgia Avenue, Columbia Heights, Shaw and U Street," said Councilmember Graham. "I'm pleased to work with Mayor Williams and my colleagues to get the projects included in this year's budget."

Included in the resolution:

  • Pocket Park ($250,000). Redesign and development of the pocket park at 14th, Oak and Ogden Streets, NW.
  • Job Training Center ($250,000). Provide job training, skill building and employment services on Georgia Avenue, NW.
  • Girard Park ($250,000). Redesign and development of the park at 14th and Girard Streets, NW.
  • Green Team ($350,000). Train the homeless to "clean and green" retail areas at 14th and U and in Shaw.
  • Civic Plaza ($1.6 million). Construct a public plaza at 14th Street, Park Road and Kenyon Street, NW, according to the Columbia Heights Public Realm Plan.

Proposed Resolution 16-682 is available for viewing online.
