On March 7, real estate developer and media entertainment executive, Chad Williams, filed a statement of organization and candidacy for DC Council seat for Ward One.  Williams will invest $100,000 of his personal funds to finance his campaign.

"I believe Ward 1, with the city’s most diverse neighborhoods, deserves a councilmember that can represent every constituent equally every single day," Williams stated. "I believe the representation of Ward 1 is seriously off track.  I plan to establish a ward of one unified vision, earned through one vote from every citizen.  I’m looking forward over the campaign season to engaging each resident in Ward 1 to earn their vote."

Chad Williams is a true Ward One native.  He was born on May 20, 1972 and raised in Columbia Heights.  He has also lived in Adams Morgan, Pleasant Plains, and Park View.  He currently resides in Columbia Heights with his 11 year old daughter Imani and dog "Snoop".

He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science and a graduate degree in Public Administration from the University of the District of Columbia.  Williams was very active both politically and socially while attending UDC.  He held various positions in the student government and worked as a legislative aid for former Ward 7 Councilmember Kevin Chavous.  His political activism was highlighted by the civil protest he led against educational budget cuts in March 1996.  Thousands of students were involved in the protest in front of UDC blocking traffic on Connecticut Ave for 18 hours.

Williams was involved professionally in housing, economic, and community development as a consultant with Dennison Associates, Inc. in DC and as Associate Director for Housing Development and Neighborhood Revitalization for the City of Durham in North Carolina.  Last summer, Williams became an investor and part-owner of CZN Media Corporation, an international media promotion and communications service corporation.

Williams served in United States Marine Corps reserves since 1996.

Chad Williams will be running against incumbent Councilmember Jim Graham.

Williams is very serious about what happens in Ward 1. He wants to bring about a positive change to this part of the city. We need someone who is going to repsresnet the people in the way we deserve no matter our race, religion or sexual preference. He will challenge issues he feels are not right for Ward 1.
