Help Bring Whole Foods Market To Columbia Heights!
Would you like Whole Foods Market to come to Columbia Heights? You can join our campaign to bring Whole Foods Market to the DC USA retail complex! The best way for you to voice your support for Whole Foods is to email Karen Riley at karen.riley@wholefoods.com. Karen Riley is the real estate coordinator for Whole Foods Market. She can demonstrate the level of our support directly to the Whole Foods team working on the negotiations. Please be as descriptive as you can in your emails. Please also cc or bcc your emails to Ms. Riley to us at info@columbiaheightsnews.org. We need to keep a running tally of how many messages have been sent to Whole Foods Market so we can gage how much more work we need to do. The more people who can email Whole Foods Market the more powerful our collective voices will be! It looks like we are facing an uphill battle but as a community we can make a difference! Please spread the word!
We have just recorded the two hundredth individual who has emailed Karen Riley expressing support for bringing Whole Foods Market to Columbia Heights. This count represents only those individuals who have copied us on their message to Ms. Riley or have written us an email notifying us that they had done so. When we spoke with Ms. Riley back on February 10th, we were told that she had received over 300 emails. At the time, we had only accounted for less than half that amount. So the actual number of individuals who have written to Ms. Riley is probably closer to 400 or more.
We consider this a major milestone. As we said in a previous post, More On Whole Foods Market, Ms. Riley was extremely impressed by the emails that were sent to her. She has seen many petitions in the past that consisted merely of a boilerplate letter with hundreds of signatures. She said that our campaign was particularly compelling because each email was a unique, heartfelt personal message from supporters.
Ms. Riley had mentioned that her Real Estate team will be reconvening sometime this month to further discuss the prospect of bringing Whole Foods to Columbia Heights. We wanted to see if we could get an update on the situation. We've been trying to contact Ms. Riley for the past week but unfortunately we have not been able to reach her. As soon as we hear back from her, we will let you know.
Possible Washington Post Story
We were recently contacted by Lyndsey Layton, a Washington Post reporter, who would like to write a story on our efforts to bring Whole Foods Market to Columbia Heights. Ms Layton is particularly interested in learning why residents are so interested in seeing Whole Foods Market come to Columbia Heights. What does Whole Foods Market mean to you? If you would like to share your thoughts with Ms. Layton, please email her at

Wonder if Whole Foods could rent some spaces in those (althought Giant would not like them having a few spots in the Tivoli parking... lol)
Is it really up to us? Written by Mr. D on 2006-03-17 13:47:43While it's very impressive that so many people in the neighborhood are coming out to support the idea of a Whole Foods Market, is it really up to us? I mean, the decision will ultimately depend on whether or not Whole Foods believes a Columbia Heights store will be a profitable venture or not. So who are we trying to convince here?
Written by Viipottaja on 2006-03-18 07:12:56Well.. we are trying to convince them that it will be a profitable venture. As simple as that. When the Logal Circle/P St one came, community activity did play a role.
