WETA Neighborhoods Special

WETA NeighborhoodsFor those of you who have been watching WETA probably know that this station (PBS, Channel 26) is planning to air a new mini documentary series called WETA Neighborhoods about various neighborhoods in the Washington, DC area.  In fact they have already begun airing short segments on Shaw and LeDroit Park this week.  But guess what other neighborhood will be featured on this new program?  Yes, you guessed it, Columbia Heights!  The following is a full list of the neighborhoods that will be featured on WETA Neighborhoods:

  • Shaw and LeDroit Park, DC (January)
  • Del Ray (Alexandria), VA (February)
  • Bowie, MD (April)
  • Southwest, DC (May)
  • Glover Park, DC
  • Columbia Heights, DC
  • Shepherd Park, DC
  • Old Town Alexandria, VA
  • Poolesville, MD
  • Anacostia, DC
  • Palisades, DC
  • Adams Morgan, DC

WETA is doing a series of short segments for one neighborhood per month.  A specific month has not yet been set for Columbia Heights but based on the list above it looks like they might air the segments sometime around July or August.  If we can get the exact month we will report it here.

It looks like they really need the help of the Columbia Heights community to obtain thoughts, memories, and stories about this neighborhood.  We think this would be a perfect opportunity for you to help Columbia Heights shine!  You can visit their story submittal page to provide your input.  We will provide periodic reminders for you to contribute to this wonderful WETA program.

Publish Your Own Stories On This Website

We were already planning to add a special page in the About section for community members to share their own stories.  We know that there are residents who have lived in Columbia Heights for years, decades, and even generations.  We love learning about the Columbia Heights of past and reading about your favorite memories.  We would be happy to publish your story on this website in conjuction to the one you will be sending to WETA Neighborhoods.  Please Contact Us with your stories.  As soon as we get our first story, we will create a new page in the About section and post your story.
