Ellwood Thompson'sWe recently received word from Ryan Youngman, CEO of Ellwood Thompson's Local Market, that his company remains in talks with the DC USA developers.  Mr. Youngman is strongly committed to bringing his local market to Columbia Heights.  He stated the following:

We continue to be persistent in our attempts to come to Columbia Heights  and service the communities local organic needs (go locavores!!).  Columbia Heights outstanding community outreach has been absolutely a “catalyst” in our decision making.  We hope a space will welcome us soon and a home we will have in this fantastic neighborhood.  Please keep up the positive pressure in the community and we will keep our fingers crossed.

Again thanks to each of you for your emails and kind remarks, it is truly inspiring.

It is anyone's guess as to what is holding up the decision to bring Ellwood Thompson's on board.  In the past, Grid Properties, the lead developer for the DC USA project, suggested that the decision will boil down to "economics."  We sincerely hope Grid Properties would also factor in the needs of the community in choosing tenants.  Ellwood Thompson's is a progressive natural market whose mission is to foster community and support local producer.

There has recently been some active discussion on this topic from the community in our forums:   Ellwood Thopmpson's update?

Apparently, Jim Graham is hearing that two retailers, including Ellwood Thompson's, are vying for the same space in DC USA. I'm guessing that Ross is the other retailer. If people are serious about getting Ellwood Thompson's to come to DC USA, you need to be sending e-mails to Jim Graham and Grid Properties to make your feelings known.

I sent an email to Jim Graham. His response:

"I am doing all we can. I now there are economic and space issues that everyone is working on. Bests Jim"

If others would like to contact him, his email is Jim Graham Does anyone know the email contact info for Grid properties?

Does anyone have contact info for Grid Properties? We desperately need another choice in grocery stores. The Giant will become really overcrowded when the new developments are completed.

Their bare-bones website has the following e-mail address, though I don't know whether anybody checks it: This is their phone number: 212-678-4400.

Here's what I got from Graham:

"Thanks. I have been pressing for them for sometime now. The issues are space related, and I believe they are being worked out. Bests Jim"

Hopefully, this is a good sign.

Received the following response from Jim Graham after inquiring on Ellwood Thompson:

Forgive me if this is common knowledge or if this isn't the way the process works, but is there a public forum where we could show up personally to show our support for ET in addition to online support? i for one would be happy to make my support known in person.

The North Columbia Heights Civic Association is holding their next meeting this coming Wednesday at 7:00pm. Jim Graham will be in attendance. Perhaps that might be a good opportunity to bring it up.
