We need to encourage Grid Properties to look past immediate profits and consider what would be the best for both the DC USA project and the Columbia Heights community in the long run.

on 2007-09-06 14:48:18The idea of having a quality green grocer in Columbia Heights has enthused all the neighbors I know. Many neighbors have expended a lot of emotion, energy & time trying to get a WFs or TJs type grocer in the DC USA project. Our efforts to date have not panned out, but I am heartened that the community is still committed to this effort and that Ellwood Thompson's is seriously considering this project.
I don't know much about Ellwood Thompson's business model, but I do know that my food shopping needs are not met by the Giant. Their produce is nearly the worst I've seen in the city. And, since I am largely vegetarian, I feel no need to go into the store. I shop at the WFs on P or at the Shoppers in Herndon, VA where I work. I want to be able to walk to a store when I get home & weekends -- that's why I live in the city. I live 1.5 blocks from the DC USA project. I consciously support DC business, when it works for me, but I don't believe Giant works for me or the larger CH community.
I believe Columbia Heights would welcome ET's. There is much pent-up demand for quality retailers in this section of the city. Try to negotiate the best least possible, but don't let this opportunity pass you by...

Anyway, I'll count down the days (hopefully) until I can have a delicious ET's Vegan Classic wrap. Sometimes, I think about driving to Richmond as an excuse to get one. Now I won't have to! Yay!
