Ellwood Thompson's is a very successful, evironmentally conscience natural market based in Richmond, Virginia. CEO and founder Ryan Youngman would love to bring his natural market concept to Columbia Heights. Youngman feels that the DC USA retail complex would be the perfect fit. Hungry for Ellwood Thompson's! Written by Hungry! on 2008-03-01 20:10:25Please, please, please come to Columbia Heights! Personally, I do not shop at the local Giant... I trek all the way down to Whole Foods because of the selection and for the great service. My tenants go all of way to Trader Joe's in Foggy Bottom to shop and the line was out the door, they said!
Ellwood's would be a HUGE success!!! The community demands it!
Ellwood Thompson Written by Therese on 2008-03-05 09:38:54With Whole Foods backing out we need to have another alternative in the neighborhood for an organic grocer. I would definitely like to see a grocer like Ellwood Thompson go in DC USA. Especially given that they support local farmers.
BRING ELLWOOD THOMPSON'S TO DC USA Written by Sally on 2008-03-13 11:00:28Yes!
Written by kenzo on 2008-03-13 14:57:45Columbia Heights needs ET!!! The place would be jammed all the time... the perfect compliment to Giant, which is annoying to shop at given the ridiculous checkout lines and random riffraff. Come north, ET... come north
PLease come to Columbia heights Written by dc mom on 2008-03-13 21:25:08WE NEED YOU. I DRIVE to Whole Foods, and hate the lines/parking. I drive to Trader Joes, and it takes several hours. Having an Ellwood would be so great, and I know you would have a HUGE client base!
Columbia Heights Needs Ellwood Thompson Written by Mark on 2008-03-16 16:21:50I sure hope that DCUSA and Ellwood Thompson's come to an agreement soon. We need them in the area! They would be a perfect compliment to the Giant in the area. As a resident of Columbia Heights, I know that many, many people in the area will be patrons of ET!
Written by James on 2008-03-17 10:02:52I am really counting on Ellwood Thompson's to open up at DC USA. I think it will be a much needed element in the development to balance out the big-name retailers. This will truely define the neighborhood as cool and cutting-edge instead of just being an urban shopping center. Also, I intend to spend big $$$ there. It certainly sounds like a win-win. Ellwood Thompson - please don't let us down.
Former Richmonder now living in DC misse Written by
on 2008-03-18 01:48:13As a former Richmond, Virginia resident for 20 years, I really miss the Ellwood Thompson's Natural Food Market, as a downtown city Fan area resident I remember when they opened it was a great quality choice over the chain stores, who only started competing in organics later, and not comparably as well since it only seemed a sideline, as a now Columbia Heights resident for several years it would be great to have such a local option here nearby, and must admit that when visiting Richmond I always make it a point to stop by and stock up before returning to DC, if the store opened a site here it would be a very convenient and bountiful blessing indeed. This is not the first time they have branched out, after several years of city living I had moved outskirts to Chesterfield County and recall their suburban store opened there, where I had also eagerly shopped with pleasure, but the store did not succeed but maybe a year before closing, so effective business planning and cost analysis on their part for this economic venture must be decisively respected. It would be great indeed to have Ellwood Thompson's follow me yet again into Washington!
Please come! Written by

Written by russell on 2008-03-25 08:10:39what columbia heights is low on - in retail - is the "edge." lots of staid stores, big box stores, and places that are kinda "blehhh." places that we, in my family, don't ever go in to. the dynamism of logan circle or dupont is lacking. Thompson's could single-handedly turn that around. there are four of us here, in our house in col heights. i know that ALL FOUR OF US would shop at Ellwood Thompson's on a regular basis.
