DC Councilmember Jim Graham will Join Starbucks Coffee Tomorrow to Celebrate the Opening of the Coffee Company’s First Columbia Heights Location
The New Store will Kick-off its Partnership with the GALA Hispanic Theatre by Presenting the Theatre with a $25,000 Donation

Starbucks Coffee Company will celebrate the opening of its first location in Columbia Heights tomorrow, on Thursday, September 20th beginning at 11:30am. In celebration of the new store opening, DC Councilmember, Jim Graham, will join Starbucks Partners (employees,) representatives from GALA Hispanic Theatre, and customers for a ceremonial first pour, Starbucks version of a ribbon cutting. As part of the grand opening ceremony, and to kick off their partnership with GALA, the Columbia Heights Starbucks will be presenting the theater with a $25,000 check donation. Members of the GALA youth group, Paso Nuevo, will be at the event reciting their own original poetry at the grand opening.
Throughout the year, Starbucks in collaboration with GALA will host exciting new programs and events such as the Youth Internship Program and the “Poet’s Corner” series, which will feature live performances at the Columbia Heights Starbucks. Starbucks partners will also participate in “Make your Mark” activities at GALA. Through the “Make your Mark” program, which encourages partners and customers to volunteer in their communities, Starbucks will grant cash donations to the GALA Hispanic Theatre based upon the number of volunteer hours.

With the opening of the new Washington, D.C. location, Starbucks Coffee hopes to contribute greatly to the cultural and economic revitalization of the Columbia Heights community. By partnering with the GALA Hispanic Theatre, the Columbia Heights Starbucks hopes to support local cultural and civic life, and create opportunities for young Latino and multicultural residents and encourage them to become active participants in their community.
