Red RocksRedRocks FireBrickPizzeria, opened for business today.  RedRocks is located at the intersection of 11th St NW and Park Rd NW (1036 Park Rd NW).  They issued the following press release today:

Gourmet Brick-Oven Pizza, Chimay On Tap And Brunch On the Patio In Columbia Heights

Owner James O’Brien Announces the Opening of RedRocks FireBrickPizzeria at 1036 Park Rd., NW

Washington, D.C., (July 12, 2007) — Owner and local entrepreneur James O’Brien is proud to announce the official opening of his latest venture, RedRocks FireBrickPizzeria, a pizzeria and cafe located in D.C.’s booming Columbia Heights neighborhood. The 95 seat, 1,800 square foot restaurant will offer both traditional and gourmet pizzas straight from the 800 degree brick oven, as well as café fare including fresh panini with housemade bread, salads and starters, wines by the bottle and the glass, Chimay Triple and Allagash White on tap and 30 beers and microbrews by the bottle.

O’Brien is also pleased to work with Executive Chef Edan MacQuaid, a longtime chef at two acclaimed local pizzerias and an expert in the precise art of brick oven pizza-making.

“The brick-oven pizza is special because in about 90 seconds it turns out a pizza with a crisp, wood-smoked crust that holds up to toppings in a way you can’t get from conventional pizza ovens,” said O’Brien. “I grew up on the Jersey Shore and attended school near New Haven, Connecticut, where pizza is a local obsession, so it’s fair to say that I’ve had a lifelong passion for great pizza. The brick oven makes the best, most flavorful pizza, with just the right amount of ‘bite’ in the crust.”

With spacious rooms on two levels for inside seated dining, a takeout section downstairs for carryout customers, and a gorgeous and expansive patio seating 35 people, RedRocks invites diners to stop in for dinner or weekend brunch to enjoy a hand-crafted beer, a glass of wine, and a crisp wood-fired pie.

RedRocks’ brick-oven pies will come in more than a dozen varieties, including the classic Margherita. Of course, guests can always play chef and pick their favorites from among 30 toppings. In addition to serving some of the best pizza in DC, the eclectic and casual menu will feature items such as warm olives with garlic and herbs, baked panzarotti, wood-fired fresh fish, mussels marinara, white bean and tuna salad, and an array of grilled panini on homemade bread.

O’Brien’s most recent D.C. venture was Staccato Lounge on 18th Street, which offered Adams Morgan live music and a laid-back atmosphere seven nights a week for the past six years. He is excited to bring his special flavor of relaxed charm to D.C.’s thriving Columbia Heights neighborhood.

“You can’t beat Columbia Heights for history, character and charm—it is really a neighborhood on the rise,” said O’Brien. “But until now, there was literally no place to get a beer and brick-oven pizza right in the neighborhood. I hope locals—and people from all over who are into wood-fired pizza—will stop by to check the place out, have a drink, and say hello. We’re so glad to be in the neighborhood.”

As he did in his Adam’s Morgan establishment, O’Brien is eager to become an integral part of the local community of Columbia Heights.  Situated in a restored rowhouse on the corner of Park Road and 11th Street Northwest, RedRocks is just one block from the historic Tivoli Theater, the forthcoming Target and Best Buy (to open in 2008) and only two blocks from the green and yellow line at the Columbia Heights Metro Station.

RedRocks (located at 1036 Park Rd. NW) officially opens for dinner service this evening at 5 p.m. and will offer late-night dining seven days a week. In addition, RedRocks will feature Saturday and Sunday brunch starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. Once brunch begins, dining hours are:

Monday – Thursday, 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Friday, 5 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
Sunday, 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

this would have been a lot more useful if it had actually been posted anywhere near opening day. why try to dupe people into thinking you were actually on top of this, or the other 12 month-late announcements now on your front page? back-dating is just bad netiquette.
uggh

Jack ... be happy that there is even a website for this kind of information in Columbia Heights... if you read the whole site you would know why there have been any postings.. Don't hate, participate.

i'm not saying there's not a good reason for the delay. i'm just saying backdating, in particular, is bad form. you wouldn't accept it if any other news source pretended to have broken some story when it was actually timely, when in fact it was a month late. why tolerate the same thing from a neighborhood site?

> why tolerate the same thing from
> a neighborhood site?

Because he's doing this with little to no compensation. Give the guy a break.

the point is that it's dishonest. i don't think you're following my point.

Dear Jack...

Why don't you start a blog, pour hours of work into it, ignore other aspects of your life, and keep every fact straight. No one's stopping you.

The purpose of the site is to provide information. And listing these recent articles with the dates of the events or publications to which they refer is much clearer and informative than posting them with their actual posting dates.

Journalistic ethics are not relevant on this kind of site. Why is it important to know when the articles were actually posted?

you people are sad, and naive.

And you're a mosquito-like irritant. You buzz around unpleasantly and we'd all be better off without you.

And to the webmaster--Thanks for the updates!

Yes, yes...so terribly naive. How could we let ourselves be duped into believing that this site's useful information was posted contemporaneously? What will become of us now?? Curses!

Lol.. ok, so no big deel. Jack is in principle absolutely right, it would have been nicer to see stories such as "Red Rocks opened 3 weeks ago and is getting a lot of positive reviews but also a lot of suggestions for improvements. Follow this link for the lively discussion on our forum." Would have been equally fast for them probably and actually more interesting.

On the other hand: WHO CARES! :) And indeed, let's give them a break. And huge warm congrats on the baby boy!

So let's move on, and enjoy the pizza in RR (if you like it) and this site (I am sure we all like it overall). :)
