I know that it's silly to be mad about Ruby Tuesday's, but I can't help myself. I moved here for places like Rumbero's or El Rinconcito II on Park Road. Quality, locally-owned places with flavor of thier own! Some high end, some more affordable, some latin, some carribean, some asian...this is what we need- not a damn chain that you can find at every mall in America!

Just close your eyes when you pass by.. ;-) In the end, retail space is retails space and rent is rent, i.e. the owner of the space cannot at least indefinitely try to keep it open in the hopes of a local restaurateur to appear. Realistically, the types of El Rinconcito II could probably not afford the space, and Rumbero's too is in my view taking quite a risk with its large space and opening ahead of the condos around having been finished. They probably calculated that the large latin clientele in CH and Mt. P would make it worthwhie already. Very few other local "high end" restaurant owners would take that risk.

Such a boring option. But on the other hand, it is nice to have one restaurant in the neighborhood that isn't Latin.

Finally ate here last weekend. It was fine, nothing special. Decent food for the money and a good salad bar. You don't see salad bars too often anymore. The burgers are pretty solid too.
Weird bar...

Never would have considered it lowering myself to hit Ruby Tuesdays back in South Carolina. But DC seems to change your perspective. Anyway, finally paid the place a visit. Pretty much the same as I remember it, but what's up with the bar? It reminds me of a sad, cheap hotel bar with the 70s-inspired stools and the open format. Kind of uncomfortable aesthetics, I thought. Just an opinion.
Belated comment concerning Ruby

Gotta admit I was a little amazed to see a chain like Ruby on 14th. But for those who are pissed/dismayed, and those who moved in the area in search of local Latin-oriented joints-please consider the paradox of your desires. Good, moneyed folks like yourself "bring a neighborhood back"-but how realistic is it to think these local places can afford to stay?
This is why I never understood people who say they move into neighborhood of the month for its "diversity".. You cant have both once the monochromatic groundswell begins
