This place has real potential, but isn't living up to it yet. We went on opening night and the (very) limited menu was delish. Unfortunately, the next week we had a disatrous meal. An hour and 20 minute wait for food, forgotten drink orders, severely undercooked food (which was 'fixed' by the waiter taking back the semi-eaten small piece of sausage, and bringing back the same piece 20 minutes later - when the meal was otherwise over. I mean, come on, just bring a new $5 piece of sausage). The portions were small, food was much worse than the first visit. For $20/entree, you'd expect better, esp. when there are cheaper latin options in the neighborhood. That said, the first night was so good that i'm sure they just need a few months to get their groove on.

I am happy to have this option in the neighborhood! I've been there just once, but the service and the food were both fantastic! The atmosphere is nice, too - good for a meal without the kids.

We had a horrible meal and it was way overpriced, I doubt we will try them again

What was so horrible out the meal, i.e. can you be a bit more specific? Would be helpful so as e.g. perhaps not ordering the dishes you did not like.
Price is relative of course, but looking at their site most main courses are $16-18 which is quite reasonable for a pleasant and clean place like that - as long as the food is decent of course. :)

Ok.. I just got home from Rumberos, and the food was AWESOME! Granted, we only had tapas, but all of the dishes were excellent (the plantain stuffed with mozzarella is to die for), the service was exceptionally nice (they turned down the AC for us.. a first in this country obsessed with freezing everybody indoors while its boiling hot outdoors), and the interior and atmosphere were great too! And it was nice to see the place almost full - we need more places like this in Columbia Heights!
Loved Rumberos

I just went there for drinks and tapas on tuesday night. It was pretty much empty. the mojitos were wonderful and the two things we ordered were just OK. I would definitly go back though and try an entree. The bartender says they don't have any happy hour specials, yet. I think this place is gonna do amazingly well since there is nothing else like it in the neighborhood!
At last! A quality restaurant I can wa

I dined at Rumberos Saturday night. The space is ultra-sophisticated, but comfortable. Our waiter was sharp and friendly and all of the various tapas we ordered were fresh and delicious. I also recommend the Pisco Sours -- yummy.
Great Bartender

Gotta sit at the bar and let JP take care of you. Great guy, and extremely entertaining when you're by yourself or just having a casual time with a couple of friends. So kudos for staffing!

I ate at Rumberos on a Thursday evening, and found the food to be wonderful but the service mediocre. Our orders took a long time to come, and the server couldn't remember who had ordered what. Although the restaurant was not at all crowded and we were seated right away we were also told that we couldn't order any food until the entire party was there (which didn't make sense to me, since we would have ordered more appetizers and spent more money if we'd been permitted to order). I'll definitely go back for the food and will give the service a second chance.

The atmosphere is great and the decor is very original. The food was delicious, although on the pricier side for what you get. Worth going again though...And the Pisco Sour is definitely a winner!
Great concept, less-great execution

Finally had a chance to try out Rumberos two weeks ago. While I thought the space and the atmosphere were great, it pains me to say that the food and service left something to be desired. The waiter, while very friendly, didn't get our order in the computer correctly, which resulted in a long delay getting food on the table. Though they comped us a free drink and dessert and it gave us time to listen to the live music, I would have rather skipped the 45-minute wait to eat. The food was also a little lackluster. I ordered the chicken mole, which was too bland for my tastes and a tad rubbery. All in all, I still hold high hopes for the place and will give it another chance, but it definitely is a work in progress at this point. With minor corrections and more focus in the kitchen, this place could be a real gem.
